The Provisional Committee of the proposed Nigerian Coast Guard (PC-NCG) says advocacy for the establishment of the Nigerian Coast Guard must remain credible, transparent and focused on the national interest.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by its Director of Communication & Public Affairs, Dr. Piriye Kiyaramo, on behalf of the Chief Executive and Accounting Officer, Capt. Noah Ichaba, the Committee warned that attempts to adopt the Nigerian Coast Guard identity while undermining an already established legitimate advocacy process will create fragmentation and confusion.
PC-NCG called on all genuine supporters to choose cooperation over competing claims and distractions. The Committee stressed that personal influence, financial interest, ethnic or religious sentiments, or perceived access to power must never determine a national institutional process.
“Influence is not immunity; access is not authority. The Nigerian Coast Guard belongs to the Nigerian people and must emerge through legitimate constitutional and legislative procedures,” it stated.

PC-NCG thanked the Federal Government, National Assembly, maritime stakeholders and Nigerians for their support, noting that the establishment of the Coast Guard requires a clear legal foundation, defined mandate, sustainable funding and proper delineation of functions.
“The objective is not to transfer power, but to strengthen civil maritime governance, security, safety, environmental protection and the blue economy,” it added.
It urged maritime professionals, graduates and investors to remain hopeful, noting that their aspirations must be protected through a credible process.
“One cannot claim ownership of a national cause without knowledge, structure, sacrifice and results. Build, don’t destroy; unite, don’t divide.”

PC-NCG urged leaders and security agencies to uphold impartiality and ensure all claims are verified.
“Truth has no hidden agenda. Justice has no tribe. Law has no religion. There cannot be Blue Economy without Blue Security and Blue Justice.”
The Committee said it will not respond to propaganda with propaganda, but will continue to present facts to appropriate authorities. It invited Nigerians to join the process at no financial cost.
