Maritime Leader to Drive Women’s Agenda in Africa’s Blue Economy

Port Harcourt, Nigeria – The Africa Blue Economy Roundtable (ABER), convened by the BRACED Tourism Promotion & Development Initiative (BTPDI), has appointed Dr. Chizoba Christiana Anyika as Secretary-General of the ABER Women’s Forum, effective 7th September 2026.

Dr. Anyika is Deputy Director at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and currently serves as Head, Maritime Guard Command – Administration, in Lagos, Nigeria.

The appointment recognizes her distinguished expertise in Blue Economy, Maritime Administration, Transport & Logistics, Coastal Tourism, and Sustainability. It aligns with ABER’s mandate to advance the Africa Blue Economy Strategy (ABES) and Agenda 2063 through inclusive and gender-responsive leadership.

Mandate and Key Responsibilities

In her new role, Dr. Anyika will provide strategic leadership: Give direction to the ABER Women’s Forum across Africa and the African Diaspora, Africa’s 6th Region.
Drive policy engagement, advocacy, and partnerships to advance women’s participation in fisheries, aquaculture, coastal tourism, shipping, marine energy, and ocean conservation.

Lead and scale ABER flagship initiatives, mobilize expertise and networks across the maritime, energy, logistics, and tourism sectors. Support strategy development and reporting in collaboration with the ABER Regional Council to ensure alignment with continental priorities.

Speaking on the appointment in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Dr. Piriye Kiyaramo, Convener/CEO of ABER, said:
“Dr. Anyika brings the perfect blend of policy, operations, and advocacy. Her background as a Maritime and Blue Economy expert, Coastal Tourism advocate, and Leadership strategist makes her eminently suited to steer the ABER Women’s Forum Secretariat at this critical time for Africa’s ocean economy.”
