The Eastern Union Nigeria (EU), a Civil Society Organisation (CSO), has called on leaders of opposition political parties to form a strong coalition, unite, compromise and make necessary sacrifices to wrest power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

In a statement personally signed by its National President, Hon. Charles C. Anike, the group urged opposition leaders to pull resources together to unseat the ruling party.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a bull in the China shop of Nigeria and all opposition leaders must sacrifice whatever they can and compromise everything necessary to quietly lead the bull out of the China shop, otherwise the whole nation will be doomed. In all honesty, history will not be kind to any of them in the opposition,” Anike stated.

He alleged that President Tinubu has positioned himself as an obstacle to Nigeria’s progress and unity and is likely to be a major threat to the country’s continued existence as a federation.

“Reference his widely circulated declaration some years back that he does not believe in one Nigeria. His activities and body language since assuming office clearly point in that direction,” he said.

Anike noted that it is imperative to call on all opposition leaders to put on their thinking caps at this critical hour.

“It is important to let His Excellency, Atiku Abubakar know in clear terms that Nigerians from North to South harbour serious grudges against him, because he spearheaded, masterminded and championed the emergence of the APC, which has resulted in the present socio-political, economic and moral degeneration of the country in the last 12 years. An action that has resulted in the enslavement of ordinary Nigerians,” he stated.

According to him, the same blame extends to former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, for his fight against former President Goodluck Jonathan and his role in bringing the APC to power, as well as to Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso and other key political actors.

“This is not an allegation or debatable but a fact of history. Therefore, it behoves these eminent personalities to shun excuses, come down from their high horses and inordinate ambitions, and do everything humanly possible to liberate Nigeria from the chains and bondage of the calamitous APC.

This will naturally come with a price, but that is the only way history will judge them with mercy,” he added.

Anike advised Atiku, Amaechi, Peter Obi, Kwankwaso and others to return to the drawing board and make uncommon sacrifices and compromises to send Tinubu and the APC packing in 2027.

“Otherwise, their yoke will continue and will be too heavy for Nigerians to bear.

If you refuse to heed this advice due to ego and ambition and continue to work separately, you would have consciously given Tinubu the opportunity to rig himself back to power. And history will judge you. You must learn from the past and see the dangerous plans Tinubu has laid by craftily coaxing about 31 governors into his camp.

Only a united opposition can frustrate the evil agenda of Tinubu and his APC. An Atiku/Amaechi ticket is not sellable anywhere in Nigeria and will be a welcome development for Tinubu. An Obi/Kwankwaso ticket is sellable but lacks the political machinery to secure victory.

Therefore, the organised political structure of Atiku and the mass-oriented Obi/Kwankwaso movement are needed in alliance to secure victory. Obi and Kwankwaso enjoy massive support of honest Nigerians, but that alone will not be enough to overthrow the crafty Tinubu. The combination of Atiku’s political machinery will help secure and sustain massive votes for an Obi/Kwankwaso ticket, but sacrifices and compromises are imminent,” he concluded.
