The Africa Blue Economy Roundtable – ABER is strengthening both its global reach and its commitment to women’s leadership with two key developments.
Dr. Karen Sumser-Lupson, Founder of 751.EARTH and renowned expert in maritime security and sustainable ocean governance, has been appointed ABER International Ambassador.
In welcoming the appointment, Dr. Sophie De Sylvie Djoufa Tiemagni, Head of the ABER Women’s Wing and widely known as “The Captain of the Blue Future”, described Dr. Sumser-Lupson as “resourceful, compassionate, and deeply committed to Africa’s blue growth. Her expertise will help the continent advance its blue economy through stronger collaboration, engagement, and partnership.”

Investing in Women to Unlock the Blue Economy:
As part of ABER’s mandate to ensure inclusive growth, Dr. Djoufa Tiemagni also announced plans to launch an ABER Women’s Forum in the coming weeks.
The Forum will coordinate activities, foster collaboration, and amplify actions led by women across ABER’s network, ensuring women are not just participants, but drivers of Africa’s blue economy agenda.
“I look forward to working closely with Dr. Kiyaramo and our global partners to build a network that is stronger, more inclusive, and more impactful,” she added.
It will be recalled that Dr. Sophie De Sylvie Djoufa Tiemagni is the Head of ABER Women’s Wing, an advocate for gender equity in maritime governance, ocean policy, and blue economy investment across Africa.
